Free Internet in Malioboro



State-owned telecommunication company PT Telkom declared its intention to set up Wi Fi access along Yogyakarta’s legend thoroughfare Jl. Malioboro, a company official said.

PT Telkom president director Arief Yahya said the move was part of the company’s commitment to support Yogyakarta’s regional administration implementation of the Digital Government Services Program.

The wireless network is transmitting from 50 access points along the street as of Thursday; the whole province would have 1,000 access points.

 “We will install 40,000 points by the end of 2013,” Arief stated as quoted by kompas.com.

he added that Telkom was gearing up to setup 1 million Wi Fi access points throughout the country by the end of the year.

Beside setting up Wi Fi access points, PT Telkom plans to improve telecommunication infrastructure as well as developing applications and improving human resources
